ILLEGAL ALIEN INDICTED FOR MAKING
A FALSE STATEMENT REGARDING U. S. CITIZENSHIP AND ILLEGAL USE OF A
SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
JOSE EDGAR RAMOS, age 32, a citizen of Honduras, was charged in a two-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for making a false statement or claim regarding U. S. citizenship and for misuse of a social security number, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on or about July 14, 2010, RAMOS an alien in the United States knowingly made a false statement or claim that he was a United States citizen in order to obtain a Louisiana Identification Card. Also according to court documents, RAMOS falsely represented that a social security number was assigned to him, when in fact the social security number had not been assigned to him in order to obtain a Louisiana Identification Card.
If convicted, RAMOS faces on each count, a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Joe La Rocca.
